See more spy photos of the 2014 Mazda6 at AutoGuide.comMazda’s new contender in the mid-size segment has been kept well-hidden by the Japanese automaker, until now, with out photographers grabbing the first spy photos of the lighter, more efficient and completely restyled 2014 Mazda6.
Rather than the sedan model, these shots are of the wagon variant that will be sold overseas.
While camo hides a great deal it’s still possible to see the new front end design, taking inspiration from the stunning Takari concept. Unfortunately the styling doesn’t appear to be quite as wild, with much more of a resemblance to the CX-5. Regardless, it’s obvious Mazda see the inroads brands like Hyundai and Kia have made by using impressive designs to wow customers.
The 2014 Mazda6 will ride on an all new platform and be several hundred pounds lighter than its predecessor. Also look for the debut of a new SkyActiv-D diesel engine delivering around 165 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque. Plus, the 2014 Mazda6 is scheduled to get a regenerative braking system and a start-stop function to help further increase fuel economy.
For more on what that engine is like, read our first drive of the 2014 Mazda6 prototype here.
