I have a 2012 Mazda 2 (7k miles) with an automatic transmission. For some time now I've noticed a slight sliding/ratcheting sound from what I think is the transmission at the instant that I'm coming to a complete stop. It happens rather regularly.http://www.mazda2revolution.com/forum/showthread.php?t=763# The lead mechanic at the dealer has heard the sound and contacted Mazda on my behalf. It's been a few week and no fix has been suggested. Just today though the mechanic got back in touch with Mazda and they feel that the sound is not from the transmission, but actually the ABS hydraulic pump going through a test when the car is stopping, and is normal. This makes no sense to me since I have another Mazda 2 (same year) that never make the sound. Has anyone else experienced this or heard of the pump noise? Thanks for any feedback.

it is normal for ABS to self test at a speed above 5mph but not ... Noise stops after a few minutes . ... 1 The hydraulic pump motor is over-run

I don't know if I would buy that answer. My car makes a clicking noise the first time you take off after starting it, and that is some sort of self-test, but it only does it once. I've also heard my ABS kicking in, which can sound kind of "ratchety," under hard breaking. If either of these noises are what you are hearing during normal stopping conditions, there is probably something else causing it. I would spray break parts cleaner on all of your break components (without getting it on everything else) and go from there.
