Car sales fell for the first time in eight months in May. According to Kicking Tires, it took dealers 54 days to move a brand-new vehicle off their lots compared to 48 days in April, thanks in part to steep fuel costs, supply issues due to the earthquake and tsunami tragedies in Japan and skimpy incentives.

But the news isn't all bad. A few star models bucked the trend, including the 2012 Hyundai Elantra. The compact popped off of dealer lots in just three days, effectively cinching the title as the quickest-selling model of May. In fact, the 2011 Elantra landed itself in second place by only lingering 7 days on the lot.

Kicking Tires points out that the Chrysler 200 is also beating the average. The Sebring successor took 19 days on average to find a new home.
Hyundai elantra, man that thing sells like hot cakes! but i wonder how long it takes our cars to sell off a lot! i wish they'd give us a full list!

I just see those new Hyundai elantra's left right and center now they are poping up everywhere. no doubt the price is awesome for what you get, but it seems some cars are getting the blunt end of things......

I wonder what our figures would be?

When I looked at the M2's in July before buying, inspection stickers must now go on a car when it hits the lot in Texas. This gives an indicator of how long the car sits. I was looking for a stick which isn't the in-demand M2 model in Dallas but it's also rather hard to find. 5 sticks existed and green/black were not my colors. I looked at a red one and it's inspection sticker was 6 months old. I bought a white one with a 2 month old sticker. The dealership had this car for less than a week and it had sat on a lot south of Dallas for 2 months. This same dealer had just sold a white one I had seen in AutoTrader and it's online picture showed a sticker that was 6 months old.

So the 3 M2s with my interest had been on lots for 60 - 180 days.

The spouse did have an 09 M3 which we sold to my son. I do see many M3s running around.

Kinda funny- when we went to purchase our replacement 2, the same salesman said after we bought ours they suddenly sold 3 more within a month. They were going fast, and the particular combo we wanted (blue manual sport) wasn't even available at first while we waited for the insurance to figure out what they were doing.

Luckily one came to a local dealer, and they swapped it over for us.
