I'm considering a Mazda 2, and just spent 30 hours in a rented one. The steering wheel is a deal-breaker. It's brutally uncomfortable because of the thick horizontal spokes with sharp edges on the top. Are there any alternatives, without losing the airbag? The rental didn't have radio controls on the wheel, nor am I interested in them as I leave the radio off when I drive.
Right now I drive a 2000 Dodge Neon, which has the best designed steering wheel I've ever used on a car. I've been going around to different makers to see smaller cars and they all seem to have the radio controls, and largely the same problem.
