Whenever in doubt I would just follow the manufacturers recommended intervals. They obviously know what their doing.
I wouldn't exactly use the factory recommendation. But instead use it just as a guide. Basically the harder you push your engine the sooner you should do the oil change
thanks guys!!! ill definitely take those into consideration!! now all i need to do is learn how to do the oil changes myself. lol
I do it every 1500 miles, but, I race the car.

Best answer for you: Do it when it needs it. Sometimes the oil needs changing before the recommended time, sometimes after. It needs to be changed when it is starting to look tinged, not when it is black.

Also changing oil is easy, find the oil pan, find the filter, get something to catch the oil in, there is a bolt in the corner of the oil pan, unscrew it with the oil catch underneath, let it drain, when it's finished, unscrew the filter, let the rest drain out. Once its down to a trickle, screw the bolt back in, pour clean oil into the filter, make sure to lube the o-ring with a small coating, screw the filter in, put a few quarts in(I am not exactly sure how many are needed for the 2) close everything up, start the car, let it get to temp, shut the car off, check oil level, add as needed.
I believe Mazda states every 7500 miles for cars driven under normal conditions. Most people drive under normal conditions. Oil change shops say 3000 miles but they have a vested interest in keeping you coming back. Funny how cars I drove in the 70's had 7500 mile intervals, ran cheap Fram filters, straight SAE 30 dino oil and we re-used the metal oil can spike without worrying about mixing weights/brands and I never had an internal engine issue.

That being said, I have 4 cars I maintain and doing a change every 5000 miles is very simple to remember. The only exception is my convertible that has two drive seasons and sees less than 10k miles per year - I change when the season starts.
My rule, since I always take advantage of Mazdas fun factor, is 3000 for a 4, 5000 for a 6. However, since the 2 uses a 0 weight synthetic, I do ours every 5000. Easy to remember, and is a pretty sure figure regardless of your driving habits.

What do you mean by 4 and 6 here?
it should be done at every 3 months or max 8000km
i think you should change up your mobil oil as described by your car manufacturers.
I'm on 4100 got my car in November 2014 normal driving back-and-forth to work . So my okay to wait till 5000? And I do ask for sympathetic oil correct? That's what my husband uses on his Mazda 3. Thanks! I know this thread is old. :)
