Mazda is giving a glimpse into its future at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show with the Koeru crossover concept.

Designed with Kodo Soul of Motion design language, the Mazda Koeru concept 'offers sporty yet delightfully refined styling and driving performance,' according to the Japanese automaker. Essentially, the concept serves as a preview of a coupe version for the existing CX-5 and there’s even a possibility that Mazda will simply name the production model CX-4.

As for the concept’s name, Koeu literally means 'exceed' or 'go beyond' in Japanese and that’s exactly what Mazda hopes to do with the crossover by delivering value that goes well beyond current offerings in the fast-growing segment. On the outside, the Koeru concept represents an evolution of the Kodo design theme adapted to a crossover vehicle, sporting LED lights and front and rear fenders that extend toward large wheels.

The concept rides on a 106.3-inch wheelbase and measures 181.1-inches long, 74.8-inches wide and 59.1-inches tall. It features the company’s i-Activsense advanced safety technologies that are designed to help prevent or reduce the damage resulting from an accident. It also shows off the company’s new-generation car-connectivity system, Mazda Connect, aimed to support safe driving and driver concentration with its unique human machine interface (HMI) concept called the Heads-Up Cockpit concept.
