I bought a new 2011 2 sport 5 speed in liquid silver.
I had done tons of research on the vehicle, as well as all reasonable competition. I found out there is an optional arm rest ($160).
Ah Ha! Guess who didn't know of such an animal. My dealer!
I negotiated the best deal I could get then said, "Well...if you'll throw in the arm rest, I'll buy it right now."
The salesman looked at me like a dog looks when it hears a new sound, that tilted head look. "I'm not sure that's even an option, but you've got yourself a deal."
After I was done with the financing fun, my salesman was about to hand me the keys. I stopped him and asked about the Arm Rest. "Almost forgot!" he said. "I did not." I replied.
Well turns out they actually had it in stock but no one EVER asked about it before.
It is actually pretty cool. It is one arms width, no sharing with the passenger, and opens up to a useful, if not small, storage console.
Best of all it immediatly brought the arm and shifter into perfect harmony.
A whole new, and better, driving experience, really!!
If you don't have this, go get it tomorrow!!!!!!!
One downside is that it mounts into the farthest back cup holder and covers up the remaining two. However, I've had no problems with any but the largest drinks fitting underneath it. (there are, of coarse, drink holders in the doors as well).
Oh and buy the way, the sales guy and finance guy now upsell every Mazda 2 buyer into the arm rest.
